Dr Wells with Dr. C Everett Koop - Surgeon General of the United States

Dr. Wells helps you manage your blood pressure through expert medical treatment and lifestyle management.

Hypertension means elevation of the blood pressure. Sustained hypertension will damage:

Kidneys - Can cause renal failure
Heart - Can cause heart failure
Blood Vessels - Can impair circulation
Eyes - Can decrease visionblood pressure

Hypertension does not usually produce symptoms but increases the incidence of heart attacks and strokes. Controlling the blood pressure reduces the risk of having one of these events.

Other Risk factors for Heart Attack and Stroke include :

  • Diabetes
  • High Cholesterol
  • Smoking
  • Obesity
  • Heart Enlargement
  • Lack of Exercise

We use computer analysis to show your percent risk compared to normal persons and to show you to what level you can lower your risk by treating each of your known risk factors.

Treatment of Hypertension

Some hypertension is curable - is yours?

Hypertension can be treated and the increased associated risk returned to normal in most cases. Drug therapy is the most common form of treatment, but diet and exercise may help.

Dr. Wells believes that successful control of blood pressure should be accomplished without producing undesirable side effects, and that this is possible in nearly every patient.

Dr. Wells - Expertise and Experience

Dr. Wells has been an invited speaker to physicians in forty states on the treatment of hypertension.

He is a Fellow of the American College of Clinical Pharmacology, the American Society of Hypertension, and the American College of Physicians. He believes that treatment with one or more of the drugs should not only lower the blood pressure but should do so without producing side effects.

Dr. Wells established a laboratory at Emory School of Medicine for the diagnosis of hypertension and held a faculty position there for seventeen years. He also did hypertension research at the Mayo Clinic.

Dr. Wells is one of 1643 physicians in the U.S. to be designated "specialist in Clinical Hypertension" by The American Society of Hypertension.

Dr. Wells appeared on and contributed to the planning of the medical videotape "Hypertension", a Time-Life production with C.Everett Koop, M.D., former Surgeon General of the United States.
